Ballet
originally a 15th century court dance, Ballet has developed into a highly disciplined dance style. This graceful dance form incorporates the foundation tecniques used in many other dance genres such as jazz and contemporary. Children can attend our Baby Ballet classes from two years old, from here they can progress through the UKA Theatre Dance syllabus learning the correct terms and poise needed to progress in this traditional and ever popular style. Ballet is available at our Elton, Heywood and spirals centres.
Tap
Tap dance involves using the foot as a percussion instrument to “tap” out a beat with the aid of a metal clad shoe. It’s roots lie in Irish Step dance, English Clog dance and African Dance. Famous tap dancers include Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Common tap steps include the shuffle, buffalo, wings, brushes and time steps. Tap classes are available at our Elton, Heywood and Spirals
Centres.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is a fusion of ballet, jazz and contemporary dance techniques. Lyrical dance is expressive, dynamic, and emotive. It is commonly set to popular music where a song’s lyrics are the driving force and inspiration for the choreography. In our Lyrical classes you will explore fluidity of movement incorporated with lifts and jumps to create dynamic dance pieces. Lyrical classes are available at our Spirals Centre.
